This version of Mycroft Holmes manifests significant psychological problems throughout his life. I see him as more fragile in general than the canonical version, though he strives just as hard to hide his insecurities and keep up with his responsibilities.

These headcanon details are specific to this version of the character:

Uncle Rudy's initial plan to "take care of things" after Eurus' second pyromania involved having her killed. Eurus planted terrifying ideas in Rudy's head, about harming others and himself, when he tried to discuss the institution burning down. Twelve-year-old Mycroft and an institution counselor were present at the meeting. The counselor noticed nothing unusual. After the meeting, Mycroft met with Uncle Rudy in private, confronted him about his intentions, and pleaded for his sister's life. This request was granted but only on the condition that Mycroft would assume personal responsibility for Eurus and everything she did from then on.

Mycroft developed anorexia immediately afterward and soon had to be hospitalized. He has struggled with fear of eating ever since. The effects are most pronounced during unusual stress.

His first year in university Mycroft ended up rooming with Sebastian Moran. Mycroft had a huge crush on his roommate. They eventually developed a sexual relationship. Near the end of the year, Mycroft and Sebastian were on a beach when Sebastian noticed a discarded gold ring. He offered it to Mycroft, who has kept it ever since. Sebastian graduated and left, and they didn't keep in touch. Mycroft still wears the ring, which inspires his "all hearts are broken, caring is not an advantage" speech.

Mycroft was recruited by the government right out of uni. He proved himself so useful at synthesizing huge amounts of information that he was eventually given full access to all government secrets. Able to advise from a position of comprehensive knowledge on every matter from the most sensitive to the most mundane, he was eventually afforded a huge amount of power and influence.

Anthea worked several years as his most trusted assistant. A disagreement about surveillance procedure opened a rift between them that neither could find a way to repair. Mycroft fired her for personality conflict and offered her a choice of promotion to any number of government positions, but she declined and sought employment far away.

When Mycroft learned that Eurus was at large, he called Anthea in Australia and begged for her help. She explained that she was not in a position to provide him with any meaningful help. Mycroft ended the conversation without further explanation. The next day Mycroft was present for the drone bomb at 221B. *** Twinverse timeline split begins***

The three caught in the bomb's blast recover from their injuries and 221B is rebuilt yet again. Mycroft is caught in Eurus' Final Problem traps and is rescued from Eurus' old cell.

Mycroft brings his family to Uncle Rudy so they can both explain the cover-up, against Uncle Rudy's wishes. The confrontation ends badly. With the rest of the family gone, Mycroft and Sherlock stay behind to discuss the specifics of Eurus' traps. Uncle Rudy blames Mycroft for everything and shoots himself in the head in front of them.
